NEVIS RANGE - AONACH MOR

Scotland has year-round skiing thanks to a combination of five ski areas, an indoor snow centre, and a dozen artificial surfaced dry land slopes. The five conventional ski areas are all in the north of the country in the Grampian mountains.

I want to tell you a bit about Nevis Range, also known as Aonach Mor. It's located next to Britain's highest mountain, Ben Nevis. It's about ten minutes from Fort William and there's a bus service that will take you all the way up to the chair lift, you can catch the bus from 'the' bus station ( small one) that's in the middle of the Fort William train station and Morrison's, you can't really miss it.... well you could, if you've got a taste for scotch mist, but hopefully you'll be wanting to enjoy other things before you chillax.

SOME SKI INFO!
Nevis Range's boarding terrain is classified as 50 percent Freeride, 20 percent Freestyle, and 30 percent Carving so there is something for riders of all abilities. The Snowgoose Chair and T-bar gives access to Easyrider, Fairways and Far West - wide open runs - perfect for carving it up or just cruising. The Back Corries offers more extreme terrain - cornice and cliff drops, wind lips, natural 1/4 pipes and steeper more challenging runs - enough to satisfy any freerider.

The most important thing I think you should know, is that you can sit in a nice wee cafe called the Pinemartin which is at the starting point of your journey to the gondolas and getting ski equipment at the ready. The Pinmartin has wood stove, sofas and a scandi feel to the place it's warm and cosy. The food is ok .. nothing out of the ordinary but when you want to rest and your freezing 'cos you've been walking in the near by forest for miles on end (it's huge) you will enjoy resting there I'm sure. I've been there a number of times and the people who served me were very pleasant.
